A BOY has been growing his hair for two years so that he can donate it to the Little Princess Trust charity.

Bailey O’Hara, a year 11 pupil from Darwen Aldridge Community Academy, decided to grow his hair for two years, and will chop it off before his school prom on June 28, for children’s cancer charity, Princess Trust.

The trust provides free wigs for children who lose their hair due to cancer or other hair related illnesses such as alopecia.

Bailey’s own grandma was diagnosed with cancer and had lost all of her hair as a result. She wore a wig to conceal it and appear normal to Bailey and his brother. He said: “When my Grandma was diagnosed with cancer, she lost her hair but she wanted to make sure she felt and looked normal for me and my younger brother.

“She therefore started wearing wigs to help her regain her normality. I felt it must be difficult for an adult to go through this pain but it made me realise how especially difficult this must be for a child. I felt obliged to give back as I knew it would change a child’s life and make me feel like the person my Grandmother wanted me to be.”

The Little Princess Trust work with specialist hairdressers to created custom made wigs for each individual child suffering from hair loss due to illnesses and match the wigs to their original hair.
