DETAILS of new schemes being developed at a borough’s community centres have been revealed.
Volunteers are now working on projects to tackle issues including worklessness, health and wellbeing and social isolation.
Blackburn with Darwen Leisure boss Cllr Damian Talbot has given details of the schemes financed from the council’s community hub development grants.
They include:
? Accrington Road Community Centre starting new healthy cooking classes with a focus on cooking on a budget;
? Darwen Valley Community Centre launching activities for local residents aged 50 to build confidence and reduce social isolation;
? Greenfields Community Centre creating a new ‘Job Club;
? Ivy St Community Centre holding ‘Afternoon get-togethers’ for vulnerable older people in the community.;
? Little Harwood Community Centre setting up social clubs to help local people become active physically and mentally, and
? Mill Hill Community Centre buying additional laptops to increase employability, boost volunteering and increase participation in its activities.
