TWO men arrested on suspicion of assault following an incident outside a social club have been released from custody, police have confirmed.
Officers were called to Bridge Street, Darwen, in the early hours of Monday to reports two men had been attacked outside the Bridge Street Sports and Social Club.
Police said that as a result of the incident a 59-year-old man suffered a serious head injury and remains in hospital.
A 56-year-old man suffered leg and head injuries.
A 29-year-old man and a 50-year-old man, both from Darwen, were arrested on suspicion of assault on Monday. Officers have now confirmed they have both been released pending further investigation.
A police spokesman said: "We were called around 12.10am on Monday following reports of an assault in Bridge Street, Darwen.
"Two men had been assaulted, with a 59-year-old man suffering a serious head injury and a 56-year-old man suffering leg and head injuries.
"Two men aged 50 and 29, both from Darwen, were arrested on suspicion of assault and released under investigation pending further enquiries."
