A 42-YEAR-OLD disqualified driver tried to pass himself off as his 19 year old son when he was stopped by police.

Blackburn magistrates heard Steven John Reece told the officer; “I know I look older but I have just had a hard life.”

Reece, of Hollins Grove Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance and obstructing a police officer. He was jailed for 12 weeks and banned from driving for two years.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said when he was stopped Reece identified himself as Steven Reece jnr.

“The officer was obviously suspicious despite the defendant’s claim that he had had a hard life and looked older than his age,” said Mrs Yates. “When he was arrested on suspicion of disqualified he admitted who he was.”

Mrs Yates said it was the defendant’s fifteenth conviction for disqualified driving.

Sefton Lee, defending, said the name and date of birth initially given to the police were those of his client’s son.

“Clearly he doesn’t look 19 years of age and this was never going to be accepted by the officer,” said Mr Lee.
