THE 23-year-old man who died outside a Darwen nightclub had been stabbed in the neck with a champagne glass.

Jason 'Jay Jay' Livesey Taylor suffered severe bleeding during the incident in the Esco-Bar, The Green, on Sunday.

A 44-year-old man has appeared before Blackburn Magistrates charged with murder.

Jack Costello, of Victoria Street, Rishton, was sent in custody to Preston Crown Court where he will appear on Friday.

He spoke only to confirm his name, age, address and nationality during the brief hearing.

On Monday, a memorial in tribute to Mr Taylor, from Darwen, was held outside Esco-Bar. 

More than 30 people gathered to lay flowers by the entrance door in commemoration.

Girlfriend Amber Greenwood, who lives in Blackburn, paid tribute to ‘an amazing, selfless guy, who loved football.’

He played for The Crown pub football team and David Gibson, who runs the club, described him as a ‘fantastic player’.

Blackburn Sunday League are planning to hold a minute’s silence for the next two weekends in his memory.

A memorial football game will also be held at Darwen football club on Sunday, February 11. Gates open at 1.30pm, kick off at 3pm.
