A 1928 Blackburn Rovers versus Huddersfield Town FA Cup final programme, which cost only sixpence new about 3p in modern money, is set to fetch between £350 and £450 at an auction.

The programme, together with a ticket from the 1928 FA Cup final, is coming up for sale at Graham Budd Auctions in London on Tuesday (November 14).

Rovers beat Huddersfield Town 3-1 in that FA Cup final on April 21,1928,with two goals from centre forward Jack Roscamp and inside left Tommy McLean.

It was the sixth time Rovers had won the FA Cup and coincidentally, they did it at the sixth FA Cup final staged at Wembley.

Rovers, managed by Bob Crompton and skippered by Blackburn-born Harry Healless beat Newcastle, Exeter (after a replay), Port Vale, Manchester United and Arsenal to reach the 1928 FA Cup final.

Harry Healless started off with Blackburn amateur clubs, Blackburn Athletic,Victoria Cross and Blackburn Trinity, before going on to make 360 Football League appearances for Blackburn Rovers and playing twice for England.

For the 1928 FA Cup final ,Rovers fielded nine Englishmen and two Scots, goalkeeper Jock Crawford and right back Jock Hutton.

Altogether Rovers have made eight FA Cup final appearances. They won the cup in 1884,1885,1886, 1890,1891 and 1928. But they were beaten in the 1882 and 1960 FA Cup finals.

The 1928 Rovers versus Huddersfield FA Cup final programme coming up for sale on Tuesday is in what the auctioneers describe as 'reasonably good condition' but its staples have been removed.

Auctioneer Graham Budd said: “Collectors remove staples deliberately to stop any rust marks or to stop any existing rust bleed getting worse.”

Rusty staples, team changes in ink, creases, tears, and food and drink stains can seriously reduce the value of football programmes.
