CALLS have been made for Darwen to host its own Christmas market following the success of the food festival.
Thousands of visitors braved the rain and turned out for Darwen Food Festival on Saturday.
The event featured a plethora of food stalls as well as pop up versions of local bars, housed under two marquees.
Live music was provided by Darwen-based record label Sunbird Records and a visit from the Darwen Tower town mascot was a hit with visitors of all ages.
Event organiser Samantha Taylor said: “It’s exceeded anything we could possible have imagined.
“Thousands of people have been here throughout the day.
“Even the rain has been embraced by the community.”
Visitors took to Facebook to share their thoughts on the day.
Roy Taylor said: “Brilliant this year.
“Well done Darwen Town Council, Samantha Taylor and everyone involved.
“Now for the Christmas one.”
Tristan Carter said: “Agreed.
“It would be lovely to see Darwen have a Christmas market.”
Steve Ashton said: “Darwen needs more and more events like this.
It was great to see Darreners turn out despite the weather.”
