Pay and Display charges have been introduced in two car parks in Darwen.

Railway Road and Atlas Road Car Parks in Darwen will revert from being free car parks to Pay and Display.

The pay and display machines will take take coins, notes, cards and are also contactless.

The decision was made to made to introduce the charges in December

It was argued by those opposing the decision that ease of parking was an incentive to visit the town and the borough should be encouraging use of public transport.

However, council bosses said that the decision the revenue created will help the council to find the £48million it is required to by 2019.

Charges will start from Monday, October 2nd and there will be new signs on the car park altering users to the changes.

There will not be any charges for weekend use of the car parks

The tariffs for the car parks will be from Monday to Friday and will be priced at £1.50 for up to two hours, £2 for up to 4 Hours, £3 for up to 12 hours and £5 up to 24 Hours.
