ANGRY residents have called for the council to take action against illegal parking.

Complaints have been made about cars parked on the pavement running the length of Bolton Road.

One resident said: “There are 30-40 cars parking on the pavement and the council won’t shift them.

“They are parking on the footpath and taking up fifty per cent of the pavement.

“The bushes are overgrown as well so it leaves very little space for pedestrians to get past.

“You can’t event cross the road and walk on the other side because they are parked bonnet to bumper.

“I saw a woman walking down their with a pram and a toddler last week.

“She had to let go of the toddlers hand because they had to walk through single file.

“Cars can legally park on the other side of the road so it makes it very difficult to drive down the road.

“It’s almost impossible for heavy goods vehicles to get down there."

The pensioner has contacted Blackburn with Darwen Council to discuss a solution to the problem but has had no response.

He said: “I have spoken to the council about doing something about it but nothing comes of it.

“My wife contacted them last week and was told they would look into it and get back to her but they never did."

Councillor Karimeh Foster who represents Whitehall Ward said the situation was unacceptable.

She said: “I completely agree with the gentleman, the parking on the road is unacceptable.

“We have a lot of trouble with it and I have been in contact with the council.

“They have sent officers down to assess the situation but nothing has been done about it.

“It feels like I am banging my head against a brick wall.

“The people parking there know what they are doing is inconveniencing the residents yet they continue to do it. It feels like the people of Darwen don’t care about their community and the welfare of their neighbours."

A spokesman for Blackburn with Darwen Council said: “We are aware of the issues in this area.

“Previous experience has shown that putting yellow lines down only pushes the problem onto somewhere else.

“We are trying to help residents living here by engaging with local businesses to identify different solutions to the problem.

“This includes finding ways of preventing everyone from driving to and from work in their own cars.”
