HISTORIAN Dr Roy Parker will host a talk on Hoddlesden and its Satellite Villages this evening in the Heritage Centre.

Mr Parker, who's family are from Hoddlesden completed a PHD in local studies and has published a book, 'Hoddlesden and Its Satellite Villages.'

He will be discussing the history of four intertwined rural townships that were typical of old east Lancashire, tracing their development from their beginnings as tiny settlements to modern day.

Chairman Tony Foster said:"Roy gives an interesting insight into the survival of four East Lancashire rural townships.

He explores how the villages flourished and grew until well into the 19th century, when the introduction of power looms caused an exodus of weavers as they sought work in the new urban factories."

The talk will begin at 7pm and admission is £2.00.
