A WHIRLWIND romantic break to Disney World turned into a holiday from hell — after a couple were trapped overseas by Hurricane Irma.

Lovebirds Kimmie Halleron and her boyfriend Danny Baker felt on top of the world after getting engaged in Orlando — but their dream holiday soon turned to the stuff of nightmares when the huge storm hit the Florida resort.

The 23-year-old salon owner said the power to their hotel was cut off several times and were stuck in the same room as dozens of other holiday goers.

The pair were stranded for three days before finally being flown home yesterday in an Air Tanker.

They went to the airport three days in a row before they finally managed to get on a flight.

Miss Halleron, who owns Inner Beauty in Darwen, said: "It went from the best holiday, as we got engaged, to the worst because of what happened.

"We felt safe until around 2am on Monday morning, the wind was so loud outside and then the power cut off.

"We were confined to our room for two days.

"We were moved to a second hotel after almost 36 hours without power before we were taken to a third hotel.

"There was lots of blown over trees and lots of debris everywhere.

"I've not slept properly since Monday night, this has truly been the worst experience of my life."

Hurricane Irma smashed through the Caribbean and mainland USA for several days, destroying thousands of buildings and killing more than 80 people.

Thousands of people were left without power and many were made homeless.

Hundreds of tourists were left stranded at airports as flights were cancelled.

Walt Disney World reopened on Tuesday after damage from the storm forced the theme park to shut its doors for two days.

The government announced a £32million relief fund to support the humanitarian effort with those who lost everything after the hurricane.

Miss Halleron, who has run her salon for two-and-a-half-years said: "My business was still running luckily because my staff managed to rearrange clients, but it has still been very stressful.

"We were stuck in the airport with no communication to us — there was no food or water given to us after four hours.

"We went back to the airport three days in a row. We had checked in twice previously with all our bags.

"After waiting for around seven or eight hours, we were told there was a fault with the plane and we couldn't go anywhere.

"To top it off it took us two hours to get our bags from the airport because of technical faults."
