TWO trees that fell in Sunnyhurst Woods and blocked paths have been cleared by the council.

The trees were discovered by a walker at around 7pm on Monday evening who informed the Friends of Sunnyhurst Woods who raised the matter to get them cleared.

Chair of the group, Hayley Kilpatrick said: “A member of the public got in contact to inform us of the situation.

“We have had a lot of strong winds at the moment which we believe has caused the trees to come down.

“It is a bit upsetting as we have just started reopening the paths after the landslide.

“I informed the council and they got in contact straight away to say they are dealing with it.

“They have been really helpful and have worked really well with us.”

A spokesman from Blackburn with Darwen Council: “The trees came down on Monday and were moved off the paths yesterday.”

“We do not believe the falling of the trees is related to the storm.

“It could have been caused by a lot of things, such as existing water which affected roots, another issue with the roots or rot.

“We do not know at this point.”
