THREE schools that have had their first inspections since becoming academies have been rated 'requires improvement'.

St Luke and St Philip's CE Primary School, Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School and Eden School in Blackburn were all given the poor judgement this academic year.

According to a Blackburn with Darwen council report seven schools have retained their 'good' rating following short inspections including Darwen Aldridge Community Academy and Blackburn Central High School.

Of the eight that have had a full inspection since March, Holy Trinity VC Primary School and Meadowhead Junior School have lost their 'good' rating while Our Lady of Perpetual Succour RC Primary School improved to 'good'.

St Barnabas and St Paul's CE Primary School in Blackburn and St Cuthbert's CE Primary School in Darwen were both rated 'outstanding'.
