THE Cellar Bar has announced its 'relaunch date' — after a partial ceiling collapse at the club last weekend.

Around 300 people had to be evacuated from the popular club in Blackburn town centre at 3.30am last Saturday.

Two pieces of plasterboard had fallen in the 'factory floor' section of the club during the venue's 'Audacity Summer Jam' night.

Police said a man and a woman suffered minor injuries and the woman was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

However club bosses announced the venue will be back open tomorrow night (Friday, August 4) for clubbers to enjoy.

Phil Davey, co-owner of Cellar Bar, said: "We ripped all the ceiling down and replaced all of it for good measure.

"We started working on it on the Sunday and have worked hard to get everything back to normal.

"The factory floor is used as an overspill on music nights and will be used when another event is put on.

"We were lucky with what happened, it could have been a lot worse.

"I hope everyone can come down tonight and support us again, we have a great following and would love everyone to return.

"It will be business as usual at Cellar Bar."

The bar was brought back to life after lying dormant for four years following a £65,000 refurbishment.

After the ceiling fell, Neil Shackleton, director of Boomtown Basement Records, a community interest company which took on the club last October, said he could not believe what had happened.

He said: "We were all absolutely gutted. It was such a shock.

"The club was packed and there were around 300 people in there, but when the piece of ceiling fell we got everyone out in a matter of minutes.

"Everyone inside was really corporative and got outside to safety very quickly, which was fortunate because after everyone was out another piece fell.

"We are here to try and help up and coming musicians flower and perform to lots of people.

"We're all Blackburn lads and we are here for the people of Blackburn."
