INVESTIGATIONS are still going on into a fire on a building in Darwen centre on Sunday.
Two fire engines and crews were assigned, from Blackburn and Bamber Bridge, to the town’s Santander Building Society, on Market Street, just before 2pm after reports of smoke coming from the roof.
Firefighters pitched a ladder for access and used a hosereel jet to extinguish a fire involving tar on the roof, which was smouldering.
Firefighters were able to put out the blaze very quickly but now investigations into the cause of the fire are under way.
A spokesman for the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two crews attended the fire and they found tar smouldering on the roof of the building.
“They didn’t take long before it was out but initial investigations didn’t reveal an immediate cause.
“It’s possible that someone was trying to repair the roof, or there’s a small possibility it could be arson, but it’s too early to say.”
