DARWEN job centre could close within three months, it has been revealed.
A consultation into proposals to relocate Darwen Job Centre to Blackburn was carried out earlier this year.
The department for work and pensions said it would help them make more efficient use of the building and save money, however the plans were heavily criticised by community leaders who said it would be inconvenient for people to travel to Blackburn.
During the consultation 95 per cent of those who responded cited concerns about the increase in travel time.
A spokeswoman for the DWP said they understand the Bury Street site could close within three months.
However they are looking at the option of having an outreach centre in the town.
