Bosses at Electricity North West said the issue was connected with Darwen substation and was caused by a faulting transformer.

Homes across the BB3 area, including Rectory Close, Priory Drive and Chancel Place were affected.

An Electricity North West spokesman said: "Our engineers have been working quickly all morning to fix the problem, and we aim to have everyone's power restored before 4pm today.”
