A COUNCILLOR is calling for ‘mind the deer’ signs to be put up on a road after a two of the animals were almost hit by a car.

Cllr Paul Browne, who represents Sudell Ward on Darwen Town Council, will propose putting up the signs after he saw two cars swerve out of the way of the animals that ran into Pole Lane on Tuesday.

Cllr Browne said he the cars managed to dodge the animals that made their way onto the road at around 11am.

Cllr Browne said: “I will bring up the proposal of two watch for deer signs after this incident.

“The drivers must have been scared out of their wits when they saw the deer run out.

“Myself and others have been to Pole Lane recently and took part in a big clear up and removed rubbish and litter from the area.

“We want our wildlife to thrive and this may well alleviate any accidents and help our wildlife.

“I’m hoping the council can consider my proposals and discuss it.”

The issue will be raised at the Darwen Town Council annual general meeting on Wednesday, May 10, at the town hall in Croft Street, from 7pm.

Residents are invited.
