DARWEN Cricket Club has produced a booklet documenting the history of the club as it begins a new era in a new league.

The book, entitled ‘New Era Dawns For The Towers’, marks 64 years of cricket in the Northern League as the club makes its move into the more prestigious Lancashire League.

It features a piece selecting Darwen’s best professional XI and tributes to club stalwarts such as Peter Lamster, who was chairman for almost 25 years and died in 2006.

Graham Ainslie, chairman, said: "It’s been really important for us to mark this moment in history for the club as we prepare to play in the Lancashire League.

“It’s a whole new era for us as a club and we’ve gone through lots of changes so we just wanted to put a marker down.

“We’ve got around 250 copies at the moment and we’re just asking for a small donation if people can spare it.”

The club has made improvements to the playing surface, pavilion, scoreboards, and practice nets in preparation for the Lancashire League.

The books, which have been edited by Darwen resident Harold Heys, are available from the club.
