A PARK friends group has criticised Blackburn with Darwen Council for carrying out a ‘very poor’ tree felling job.

Dangerous trees have been chopped down in Bold Venture Park but the group complained to the council after stumps were left at ‘three to four feet above ground’ and logs were left ‘scattered around’.

The council has said the removal of the dangerous trees was prioritised over the removal of the logs and the friends group has now been told this.

A spokesman for the group said: “It was unanimously decided that we should complain strongly to the council and that they or a contractor should return to the site and clean up the mess.

“We wanted to point out this is a listed historic park and not just a rough bit of woodland.

“Logs have been left scattered around with no attempt to leave a clean and tidy site.”

The council has offered to meet with the friends to talk about the park’s priorities.

A council spokesman said: “It is policy to cut trees down to 2ft to 3ft in height to reduce any trips, falls or accidents from park users.

“Due to phased work, the removal of the dangerous trees was given precedence over the removal of the logs, which were visible but were not scattered around the park.

“This has been communicated to Friends of Bold Venture Park and we have offered to meet them to talk about their priorities for the park.”
