A SUPPORT project pioneered in Darwen has been nominated for a Lancashire social enterprise award.

Reachout has been named as a finalist in the Selnet (Social Enterprise Lancashire Network) event.

The initiative was created by Newground, formerly known as Groundwork, and is designed to assist young family and their families, as they aim to turn their lives around.

Tracy Marsden, a community resilience manager, began the project with colleague Lesley Hall, and they have been nominated in the social enterprise champion category.

Her team is said to have delivered thousands of hours of intervention and support work as well as securing thousands of pounds worth of funding to allow them to carry out programmes in the community.

An awards spokesman said: “The Reachout ethos is a strong belief that when given the chance, people can turn their lives around and have a positive impact on their peers, families and the community as a whole.”

Their operating model has been adopted by other teams based in Shadsworth, Rossendale and Pendle. The Reachout team will find out if it has been successful when the awards are held at the Mytton Fold Hotel in Langho, on April 28.
