A WORKSHOP to discuss the renovation of some historic stables at a Grade I-listed building will be taking place next week.

The stables development committee at Turton Tower will be holding the second of two sessions on Wednesday, March 29, at The Barlow in Edgworth.

At the end of 2015 the Save our Stables campaign won a £10,000 start-up grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to research and prepare a business plan.

It will produce a blueprint to refurbish the stables on the grounds of the main structure.

The session will focus on business planning and will enable residents to become actively involved in the project.

A committee spokesman said: “The future of the tower will largely depend on the stables project being realised and the more people, especially the friends, who become involved, the better the chances will be for a successful outcome.”

Although still structurally sound, the stables have lain neglected and disused for many years.

Cllr Jean Rigby, leader of the campaign, said up to £1milllion may be needed to ensure the future of the stables.

The workshop is at 12.45pm.
