A CHOIR from Darwen which has been active for less than a year is to share the stage with a major folk band.

Walk This Way was formed in April out of a walking group run by re:fresh, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s health and wellbeing scheme.

Despite its short existence, the choir now has 42 members and will be taking to the stage with the Houghton Weavers at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy next month.

Formed in 1975, the band have made appearances on BBC and ITV shows including This is Your Life and The Video Entertainers and have more than 24 albums.

Mike Cotter, choir manager, said: “It’s going to be a great night and we are really excited.

“This is a huge gig for us. We have grown to a huge group from absolutely nothing really.

“We are always looking for new members of course and invite anyone and everyone to come along to our rehearsals.”

Some of the songs Walk This Way will be singing on Saturday, April 8, include Hallelujah, made famous by Leonard Cohen, You Raise Me Up, We’ve Only Just Begun and Sally.

Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, are £10 and are available from Eileen Walsh on 07718 319364 or any other choir members.

The group rehearses in Spring Vale Methodist Church every Friday from 7pm to 9pm and anyone is welcome to join.
