A MAN went on a rampage smashing the windows of a pub and cars before being tasered after swinging a spade at officers.

The man, who police described as a ‘very violent individual’, was spotted smashing the windows of the Alexandra Pub in Darwen at around midnight on Thursday.

He disappeared but police quickly found him.

He then swung a spade at them and police dog Nouchka.

A spokesman said: “Officers were called the Alexandra public house in Darwen after reports of a man smashing windows of the pub and cars.

“Although the offender had left prior to our arrival he was quickly located and decided to swing a spade at officers and Nouchka – not a wise move.

“The offender continued to offer extreme violence to officers and was tasered in order to subdue him.

“Thanks to the members of the public who called in and passed the offender’s name and to the staff on duty who remained professional in the subsequent arrest of this very violent individual.”

A spokeswoman for the pub said regular customers rallied round to help after the incident.

She said: “The whole window was put through and a car was smashed in. It is a total write-off.

“It happened around midnight when we were just waiting for people to leave.

“The regulars spotted him and closed the doors so he went to the window and put that through.

“I called the police. He disappeared but they managed to find him.

“The got him into custody and took him away.

“The regulars fixed the window the next day.

“They really rallied round and have been brilliant.”
