A MAN has been charged over an alleged altercation at a Darwen pub.

Police said they were called to the Millstone in Church Street at 6.30pm on Tuesday following reports that a man had entered the pub with a machete.

A police spokesman said a man was restrained by staff and customers until officers arrived.

He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with injuries which were not thought to be serious.

He was being interviewed by detectives on Wednesday and has subsequently charged.

Michael Rainey, 38, of Hindle Street in Darwen, has been charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to case fear of or provoke unlawful violence.

He has been released on bail to appear at Blackburn Magistrates Court on February 22.
