A MAN was arrested on suspicion of assault for his role in a disturbance outside a pub which saw a woman attacked.

Police were called to the incident outside the Prince of Wales in Quaker Lane, Darwen, on Friday night.

It is believed an officer had to draw their Taser during the disturbance but it was not discharged.

A 39-year-old woman from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. She was given a fixed a penalty notice.

A woman is her 20s was attacked and police said she was treated at the scene by paramedics.

A 21-year-old man from Darwen was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.

A police spokesman said: “It looks like we were called at approximately 11pm on October 29 to Quaker Lane, Darwen, to reports of an assault.

“Officers found a large group had left a nearby pub and during the ensuing disturbance a man was seen attempting to punch a woman.

“A 21-year-old man from Darwen arrested on suspicion of assault but released no charge.

“A 39-year-old woman from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. She has since received a penalty notice.”
