THE best of the East Lancashire music scene turned out in Darwen for the annual Moofest.

More than 1,500 people braved the damp conditions to see more than 50 bands and DJs including Hot Vestry, The Wagon Wheels and Rime Suspex at the two-day festival at Wellybobs off Roman Road.

Organiser Jamie Carter said: “The aim was to host a big music festival on a small budget and I think we achieved that.

“People I spoke to couldn’t believe how big it was and really seemed to be enjoying it.

“All the artists who performed are local and once we break even all the profits will be split between them.

“So it’s really about helping them financially and raising their profile.

“Despite the weather we’ve had a good turnout and I’d like to thank everyone who came and all the performers.

“It was a real task to get it on with the conditions but thanks to the hard work of volunteers we managed to do so. A special thanks to them.”

The event featured live performances on two stages and there was a silent disco on Saturday night.

There was also reel ale and food tents and a tug-of-war competition.

Moofest began life as Tockholesbury, attracting up to 3,000 people in 2014.

A change of venue to Wellybobs saw the inaugural Moofest proving a great success last year.
