FOUR separate fires broke out across Darwen Moor last night.

Two fire crews spent an hour and a half putting out the blaze using beaters, air extinguishing capability and water back pacs after receiving a call at 11pm reporting a fire close to Duckshaw Road.

The incident comes less than two weeks after 30 firefighters spent 24 hours tackling a huge fire on the moors on May 5.

Fire crews said as the were tackling the fires they could see people in the distance setting more.

A criminal investigation was launched to find those responsible after fire chiefs revealed they spent £100,000 fighting the fire.

There was approximately 160msq damaged over the four locations but the team kept it contained and did not allow it to spread further.

The cause of the fires are being investigated. Fire officers said they did not know yet if the latest fires were started deliberately.

A fire service spokesman urged residents to take care when out walking on the moors day or night.
