A NEW steak house will be opening in Darwen tomorrow above one of the town’s most popular bars.

The restaurant, called 39 Lounge Steak House, will be located above Number 39 Hopstar Brewery Tap in Bridge Street, where a new upstairs lounge opened in October.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Licensee Ben Garvin said that he spotted a gap in the market for good steaks in the town and he hopes the new restaurant will satisfy more than a few tastebuds in a fully-booked opening night.

He said: “Everyone knows that there are plenty of places to eat in Darwen, but I was thinking that there wasn’t really anywhere to get a really good, fresh steak.

“When we took over the place upstairs it already had a kitchen, so it seemed like a great idea to start up a steak house.

“We are going to use local produce from Shelley’s butchers and hopefully we can serve up the best steak in the town.

“I can’t believe we are all booked out for Friday, it came as a bit of shock but it’s fantastic and I’m excited for it.”

A variety of music events have already begun to take place at 39 Lounge such as a reggae vinyl night, acoustic Tuesdays and a soul, funk and Latin Christmas party.

Mr Garvin said that things had been going well at the new venue and the steak house will further improve it.

He said: “The steak house is definitely going to add to what is already there, the lounge has already been absolutely brilliant.

“The local DJ sets on Saturday nights have been excellent.

“Whatever we did with the place we never wanted to change the atmosphere, but this is a new venture and it will certainly add something more to the environment.

“We’ve got lots of ideas for the future such as combining the live music with the restaurant opening upstairs and doing themed nights because there’s so many ways we can go with that.”

Gary Ward, who has organised many gigs at 39 Lounge with Darwen Music Projects, said he has been impressed with how good the venue has been for performers.

He said: “The acoustic Tuesdays are getting more popular every week and it’s nice to have a completely separate room for the gigs now.

“I’m excited for the steak house opening and hope to pop along on Saturday.”

The restaurant will be open on Fridays and Saturdays, during the hours of 5pm until 9pm, and Sundays, 1.30pm to 6.30pm.
