A ‘FLY-TIPPING’ hit squad is heading for Sudell ward soon.

Blackburn with Darwen environment boss, Jim Smith, made the promise to local councillor Paul Browne at Thursday’s Council Forum. The Labour chief was responding to the Liberal Democrat, after describing the success of the scheme in Wensley Fold ward.

Cllr Smith told the meeting: “Flytipping of waste has increased within the borough.

“The council is working with communities to target hot spots, with trial being undertaken in Wensley Fold ward over a five week period.

“Five enforcement officers visit the ward one day a week tackling and clearing dumped rubbish, whilst also undertaking a door-knocking campaign.

“The result has been a number of statutory notices being issues to residents, tenants and landlords as well as businesses.”

Cllr Browne asked when, if at all, such a drive would be launched in Darwen.

Cllr Smith replied: “After Wensley Fold it will move to Bastwell ward and then to Sudell.”

Cllr Browne said: “I welcome this with open arms. The only question is when .”
