THE historic former Darwen Ambulance Station building is set to be turned into offices after plans for the work were approved.

An application to change the use of the building in George Street to a building maintenance depot with ancillary offices and the erection of a new building and storage container were given the green light by planners at Blackburn with Darwen Council.

The application was submitted by Mr Warbuton, of Highlevel Maintenance [Lancashire] Ltd, specialist steeplejacks and rope access technicians who are currently based in Weasel Lane, Tockholes.

A spokesman for the planning agents said: “The existing building has for years been the Darwen Ambulance Station but is now surplus to requirements.

“Mr Warbuton proposes to change the use of the building to general industrial for the depot/offices of Highlevel Maintenance [Lancashire] Ltd, together with the building of a new garage/storage building and the erection of a secure storage container.

“The existing building needs little work other than cosmetic and some minimum internal alterations.

“The new building and storage container will ensure that a minimum of plant and materials will be left outside the buildings. This is essential having regard to security.

“The site has more than adequate parking facilities for the business, and access is off George Street.”
