TENANTS are facing eviction after a catalogue of anti-social behaviour.

People living in the Greenway Street area of Darwen claim they have been subject to drunk and disorderly behaviour, noise at unreasonable hours, intimidation and threatening behaviour.

Now, the Darwen Neighbourhood Policing Team has confirmed an eight-week eviction notice has been secured.

Martin McCaughran, a 52-year-old resident of nearby Dove Lane, said: “This is great news that action has been taken.

“It has been greatly affecting the quality of life for the majority of local residents on the street.

“We, the residents of the area, have made reasonable attempts to discuss our complaints with the tenants.

“But every time we have been subjected to verbal abuse and threatening behaviour in response and the anti-social behaviour just continues.

“This has been causing huge upset within our neighbourhood.

“Gangs have also been hanging around on the streets in large groups and have caused great concern and distress for the neighbours given their behaviour.”

Mr McCaughran said other problems in the area included loud music, littering, car vandalism and fighting in the street.

Police said they had been called a number of times and have been working closely with the landlord to secure the eviction.

Mr McCaughran’s wife, Pierina, 44, added: “I have been here 44 years and this is the first time anything like this has happened. People should not behave like that.

“The sooner they are gone the better.

“I’m not being horrible but it’s a real shame people behave that way and it’s really frightening older people who don’t dare say anything to them.”
