PLANS have been drawn up for a new staff dining room and entrance to an expanding operation at a Darwen mill.

Herbert Parkinson has been based at Harvest Mill, in Monton Road, since 1960 but bosses have now found the need for more space through increasing demand.

Part of the John Lewis Group, the site makes soft furnishings for the upmarket chain, from curtains and blinds to cushions.

Under proposals lodged with Blackburn with Darwen Council a new entrance would be created from Mostyn Street, with the existing access closed off.

An internal reorganisation would see the Partners dining room relocated to a section of the current car park.

Architect Alyn Nicholls said: "The current location continues to serve them well in being well placed and close to potential staff and the motorway network.

"The business continues to see an increase in demand for its products and needs to expand its space and reconfigure internally to meet this."
