SUNNYHURST Labour councillor Brian Taylor has criticised Whitehall Liberal Democrat Karimeh Foster over her call for the council to increase the marketing budget for Darwen Library Theatre.
In welcoming a report by borough leisure boss Damian Talbot outlining the venue’s recent good performance she demanded extra cash to promote the venue.
Cllr Taylor said: “I am astounded by Karimeh Foster’s comments.
“Her coalition government has halved the funding of Blackburn with Darwen yet wants more money spending on marketing.
“Unfortunately she doesn’t or can’t tell us where we will get the money from.
“It is totally unreal and she knows it.
“However, I’m pleased to see that she approves of the monthly afternoon variety shows.”
Cllr Foster said she wants Blackburn with Darwen council to put the same resources behind marketing the theatres that it does for King George’s Hall.
Cllr Talbot highlighted popular concert highlights at Darwen Library Theatre including performances by the Talon Eagles.
Cllr Foster said: “We now need to build on this.”
