DARWEN LIVE music festival-goers will be on to a ‘Good Thing’ when ex-Fine Young Cannibals frontman Roland Gift headlines the event next month.

Organisers have finally announced the act that will close the first night of the annual event, having been waiting for the contracts to be signed for weeks.

The Fine Young Cannibals were formed in Birmingham in 1984 and Roland Gift’s iconic image helped them to top 40 hits with Johnny Come Home, Suspicious Minds, She Drives Me Crazy and Good Thing.

The band won two Brit Awards for Best British Group and Best British Album in 1990.

Nineties pop band Space, best known for Female of the Species and The Ballad of Tom Jones, were unveiled as the Monday headline act last month.

The announcement means organisers have, for the first time, been able to unveil the main stage line-up of the festival in full.

On Sunday, May 24, Leah Haworth will open the festival at 3pm, followed by Chris Flynn (3.30pm), Reidy’s Exposure winners, Where Fires Are (4.10pm), Dantevilles (4.50pm), English Outback (5.30pm), The November Five (6.30pm), The Transmitters (7.30pm) and Roland Gift (8.30pm).

On Bank Holiday Monday, Ramsay Lohan will be live from 2.30pm, followed by Today They Are Older (3.10pm), Myth of Unity (3.50pm), Slander (4.40pm), The Itch (5.25pm), Headsticks (6.15pm) and Space from 7.30pm.

Darwen Town Council mayor Cllr Trevor Maxfield, who helps organise the festival, said: “This is another coup for Darwen Live.

"We have managed to bring some big names to the town over the past decade and 2015 will be no exception.

“Again, Darwen Live will be one of the biggest events in the town’s calendar and will be worth a lot of money to the local economy.

“Hopefully the weather will be kind and thousands will again turn out to watch some great live music in our wonderful town centre.”

Space and Roland Gift follow on from last year’s headline act The South – formed after The Beautiful South split – and the Lancashire Hotpots and the Wonder Stuff in 2014. Other big names to have taken to the Market Square stage include The Buzzcocks, Billy Bragg, Bad Manners, Spear of Destiny, The Animals and The Beat.

Other venues in the town to host live music as part of the festival include Darwen Library Theatre, The Alexandra, The Belgrave, The Loft, The Black Horse, Marigolds, The Bob Inn, The Millstone, Number 39 Hopstar Brewery Tap, Bridge Street Sports and Social Club, Two Gates Bowling and Social Club, Cafe Hub, The Crown and Level One.
