Malik, 39, of Heys Lane, Darwen, admitted possessing a Class A drug. He was fined £500 with £135 costs.

Jonathan Taylor, mitigating, said Malik had no drug related convictions for 14 years.

“He was on methadone for a period of time and that was prescribed to him,” he said.

“He is working as a joiner and sometimes wasn’t able to get to the pharmacy to take his methadone. He has stopped attending the pharmacy and started buying it privately. If he had simply gone back on his prescription he would have been given it.”
