CABINET minister William Hague has given his support to Rossendale MP Jake Berry’s Best Shop Competition.

The competition, running until December 31 and supported by local trade organisations, ISSL Web Design and Orbital Design and Print, asks local people to vote for their favourite independent retailer.

Every voter is entered into a raffle to win a £50 voucher and prizes for the winning shops include professional marketing sessions and a tour of Parliament and lunch with the MP.

Mr Hague said: "I know from previous visits that Rossendale has a wealth of wonderful independent shops.

"Competitions like this are a fantastic way of supporting our high streets.

"I am delighted to hear so many people are getting behind Rossendale's Best Independent Shop Competition for the second year running."

Mr Berry said: “I am delighted that William is backing our competition to find Rossendale’s best shop.

“We’re really lucky to have some fantastic independent shops here and this competition is a small way of thanking our local shopkeepers, hairdressers and butchers for the services they provide.”
