DARWEN Town Council has agreed to spend £500 to organise a Small Business Saturday event in the town next month.
Deputy chairman Coun Pete Hollings told colleagues at a meeting on Tuesday that Blackburn with Darwen Council has asked the council to pay the cash towards a Darwen event to go alongside a similar one in Blackburn.
Speaking at the town council's monthly meeting at Darwen Town Hall, Coun Hollings said: "A range of events will be put on.
"It is a national initiative and Blackburn with Darwen Council has asked for £500 to go towards supporting this.
"I think we need to take the opportunity to help our small businesses."
Councillors approved the funding after a vote.
The event will take place on Saturday, December 6, from 10am to 4pm.
There will be a range of events, including a Santa treasure trail, free prize draw, fancy dress competition, live music and performances and special offers at shops and businesses in the town.
