POLICE stopped a van on the M6 carrying £8.4million of cocaine.

An East Lancashire man has appeared in court accused of trying to transport the drugs across the country.

Andrew Lee Hodson has been charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs after being arrested on the M6 last Thursday.

The 40-year-old of Marsh House Lane, Darwen, appeared at Manchester City Magistrates Court on Saturday, where he was remanded until his next hearing.

Police said the charge relates to the discovery of a 30-kilo haul of drugs in a Renault Kangoo van, when it was stopped on the M6 by Greater Manchester Police’s major drugs team.

A short time after the van was stopped, officers from Cheshire Constabulary stopped an Dutch HGV, at the Lymm Truck stop on the M56, as part of a joint operation to disrupt serious organised crime.

Phillipe Theodore Degeest, 24, of Molen Street, Limberg, Belgium, was also jointly charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

He was also remanded by magistrates to appear at Manchester City Magistrates Court on Wednesday alongside Hodson.
