COUNCILLORS are being recommended to approve a plan for a two-storey detached house in Salisbury Road, Darwen, despite two objections.

Barry Bentley, of Earnsdale Road, wants to build the three-bedroomed home on vacant land opposite the Sunnyhurst Centre.

His previous application for a larger house was rejected by Blackburn with Darwen council planning committee as unsuitable to the neighbourhood.

A government inspector dismissed Mr Bentley’s appeal on the grounds that it would “fail to make a positive contribution to the street scene”.

Now his revised proposal for a single-fronted house is set to get the go-ahead despite two objections from neighbours.

They claim the proposed house is out of keeping with the area and will remove a valuable open space.

They also say there will be a loss of privacy for neighbours as the house overlooks nearby homes.

The objectors are concerned about noise and pollution and the possibility of vermin invading the site.

Officers recommend approval, provided the applicant gives the council £500 towards a new play space for children.
