Attacker left teenager with eye injuries

A MAN who attacked a teenager and was said to have made off on his bicycle left his victim with eye injuries.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Shaun Waring, 23, asked victim Christian Simpson if he and a friend could go to his house and get drunk. Mr Simpson had refused and told them to ‘do one’.

Waring hit him in the face, the victim struck back in self defence and the two of them ended up grappling on the ground, with the defendant on top. Waring had his foot pressed on the 18 year old’s head and Mr Simpson tried to get him off.

Mr Simpson went to a friend’s house for help. He then went back outside and saw the men had gone – as had his bike. Mr Simpson suffered marks and bruises to his eye.

The defendant, of Hart Street, Burnley, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm. He was given 238 days in jail, has served the equivalent of eight months on remand and won his immediate release.
