THE lifetime’s work of a leading Muslim cleric has been stolen in a raid on his house.
Imam Sajid-ul-Hashmi, who is a chief imam and has taught children at Burnley Central Mosque for 20 years, said he was “devastated” by the early-hours burglary at his house in Grey Street, Burnley.
The thieves broke into the home Imam ul-Hashmi shares with his family on January 19, and helped themselves to three mobiles phones and a black Toshiba laptop.
Imam ul-Hashmi, 45, said: “I went to bed at 2.15am after work and got up at 6.30am.
"Overnight I left my laptop out in the kitchen with a hard drive plugged in, which contained 20 years of work. I was in the middle of organising my files and folders, and was about to get copies of it all sorted out.
“When I went down in the morning, there was big damage to the back door where someone had come in, and they had taken the laptop and three phones. I was devestated when I realised what had happened.
“I have now lost all my lesson plans for the children I teach, and the books I was working on to teach children.
“Not only is this a big loss to the community, but it also affects people in countries like Denmark where I send the books.
“I just want the hard drive back, that’s my priority.”
Police have confirmed that officers were called to the address immediately after the robbery was discovered, but have not managed to trace the equipment or a culprit.
A police spokesman said: “We would appeal to anyone who has any information in relation to this incident to come forward.
“We are keen to speak to anyone who has perhaps been offered items cheap, and they may have no idea that they have been stolen.”
Call Burnley police on 010 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

No one goes to bed expecting to get robbed but thats the problem these days , too many scum who cant be bothered to work and buy their own things but just go and rob innocent hard working people instead.Be careful , You could be next !

The will of Allah. Hard luck about your hard drive Sajid. I thought only drug dealers owned 3 mobile Phones ! I think we need to forgive the burglars , because they most probably come from broken homes, are poor, have no money, no food, no job and nowhere to live.

This is as usually the indigenous people who choose to cover their faces are those hiding their identity for criminal purposes.
There are growing numbers of indigenous people 'abandoning' this country to go to places such as the Middle East to earn tax free. I don't see them donning traditional Muslim dress....

I wonder whats really on this lap top. Maybe plots to kill or bomb the public. Under cover job by the police. Just a thought you never know.

Or even worse if you were male and chose to wear a mini skirt then the assumption would be that you are gay and as such more than likely be executed.

But, ask yourself fairly; could you hand on heart say that a concerted effort has been made by the Asian community in Burnley to integrate and adapt to the British way of life, or have we two disparate groups going about their daily business poles apart?
If the answer is the latter, then why come here? If your old way of life and cultures were so great than why not stay at home?

I think he is insinuating that there is a complete lack of effort being made by the individual to integrate with the indigenous population of Great Britain, by continuing to prominently display the customs and beliefs of a land over 4,000 miles away. Reading between the lines, he’s actually asking; why come all this way if you want our shores to be exactly like the country you chose to abandon? It's a good point.
