COUNCIL bosses are continuing to wish a town business leader a speedy recovery after he was critically injured in a violent attack in the street.

Shahed Mahmood, president of the Hyndburn Chamber of Trade, suffered head injuries when he was assaulted in Blackburn Road in Accrington earlier this month and remains at Royal Preston Hospital.

Hyndburn Council leader Cllr Miles Parkinson said he has spoken to Mr Mahmood's family and continues to send his best wishes.

Cllr Parkinson said: "Of course we are all thinking of Shahed and continue to wish him a speedy recovery.

"I've had a private conversation with his family, but things seem to be going well.

"All his family, relatives, friends and colleagues send their prays to him.

"It was a very serious incident we hope he makes a full recovery back to his best as soon as possible."

Police attended the assault which happened at 5.50pm on Tuesday, March 6.

The 49-year-old is due to stand as a Labour party candidate for the Immanuel ward in May's forthcoming local elections for Hyndburn Council.
