OFFICERS are hunting a man suspected of breaching a restraining order by going into a woman's house, assaulting her and throwing a bottle and chair at her.

Police said they want to speak to 30-year-old Lee Francis Green in connection with the incident which is said to have happened in Burnley at around 6pm on January 7 and involved a woman in her 30s.

Green, of Allendale Court, Burnley, is described as white, 5ft 9in tall, of medium build with short brown hair and green eyes.

Green, who has links to Burnley, particularly the Rose Grove area, is wanted on suspicion of breaching a restraining order, criminal damage and assault.

Sgt Gary Hennighan said: "We are appealing for information about Lee Green in connection with offences of breaching a restraining order, criminal damage and assault.

"If you have seen Green, or know where he is, contact police immediately."

In October Green was jailed for 18 weeks by Blackburn magistrates after he pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend and breaching a restraining order in favour of her.

The court heard how he confronted her as she walked along the canal bank after taking her children to school and demanded to know who the man was in her house. That came just two weeks after she had taken a restraining order out against him.

Prosecuting the case at the time, Catherine Allan said: "She told him it was her brother and he then demanded to know why she kept calling the police.

"At that point he grabbed her throat with both hands and squeezed until she couldn't breathe. He then threw her into a bushes."

Ms Allan said the victim was extremely fearful and intimidated by the defendant.

"She is scared to be on her own and has to get a taxi to work because the bus stop is near where he lives," said Miss Allan. "He has turned up near her home and on one occasion she saw him in her yard."

David Lawson, defending, said: "He says he grabbed her by the jacket and accepts that contact would have been made with her throat."
