A 40-YEAR-OLD man committed a 'drop in' burglary after falling through the floor into a nightclub.

Blackburn magistrates heard homeless Barry Duxbury was looking for somewhere to get his head down when he went into a yard at the side of the Vogue nightspot in Burnley.

Mark Williams, defending, said next thing he knew his client fell through the floor into the club cellar.

"He couldn't climb out and ended up going up the stairs into the club itself," said Mr Williams. "Once he was in there he was tempted."

Duxbury, 40, of Branch Road, Burnley, pleaded guilty to burglary and theft of bottles of booze, a mixer deck and headphones and £150 in cash together worth £728.

He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison and ordered to pay £250 compensation.

Alex Mann, prosecuting, said during the burglary Duxbury caused £1,000 of damage to a gaming machine and a till.

Mr Williams said Duxbury had not long been released from prison and had nowhere to live and no benefits.

"He was wandering the streets with a bag containing over his shoulder containing all his worldly goods," said Mr Williams. "He was looking for somewhere to sleep for the night and removed a board to get into the area at the side of the premises, went in and immediately fell through the floor and ended up n the cellar."
