A MAN who told the Department of Pensions he was giving up work the following day carried on working for the next five years.

Blackburn magistrates heard as a result of his dishonesty Nazir Ahmed Patel received £29, 881 in pension payments he wasn't entitled to.

Patel, 66, of London Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to dishonestly failing to disclose that he was working at the same time as receiving pension credit. He was sent on bail to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced.

Gareth Price, defending, said his client was a man of previous good character.

"He accepts the sentencing guidelines suggest the case should be sentence at the crown court.
