POLICE are hunting a man who swung a knife at a teenage couple as they walked through an estate.

A 17-year-old boy and his girlfriend were approached from behind by a man at the top of a ginnel along Clover Road, near the Gillibrand estate in Chorley.

The offender shouted abuse at the boy before swinging at him with a knife. The victim blocked him using his arm before the offender made his way on foot up Lidgate Road.

The man is described as being between 20 to 25 years old, over 6ft tall and skinny build. He was wearing a dark hooded top and dark tracksuit bottoms and spoke with a local accent.

The incident happened at 8pm on Thursday, January 2.

PC Steve Benko said: “Fortunately the victim managed to defend himself and was unhurt.

“I would reassure people that incidents of this nature are rare in Chorley but I’d appeal to anyone who may have any information about the identity of this man to call Lancashire police on 101.”
