| TRAGEDY: Rebecca Duxbury was an award-winning school footballer |
TEAM mates of schoolgirl Rebecca Duxbury held a one-minute applause in her memory as they kicked off their first football game without her.
Keen footballer Rebecca, known to her friends as Becky, was found dead at her home in Lower Darwen on Wednesday.
She had been due to play for the Darwen Ladies Under 14s team on Saturday.
Instead team mates took to the field wearing black arm bands after being joined in a minute of applause by supporters and opposition team Poulton Girls.
Becky's best friend, Jessica Rooney, 13, of Viscount Avenue, Darwen, played in Becky's blue football boots and covered as goalie, the position Becky had played in her last match.
Becky's parents and her two younger brothers, Scott, 12, and Josh, five, attended the memorial match.
After the final whistle, Becky's mum Vanessa spoke to the team and asked them not to forget her daughter.
She added: "Becky loved playing football.
"She always wanted to be a winner and we know she will be a winner in heaven."
Her dad Ray said: "We are really thankful for what the girls and the team have done. It has been really appreciated. It has been a really fitting tribute to her."

The team dedicated their 11-0 win to Becky. Manager Nigel Ramsden praised the girls for their bravery in going ahead with the match and their professionalism on the pitch. Mr Ramsden said: "It has been very strange not to have Becky with us. All the girls have been very quiet. They all miss her a lot.
"Becky was a very strong character in the team, very lively. She could talk a glass eye to sleep.
"She was a very talented player and it is a great loss to the team."
Team captain Jessie Hester, 13, added: "She was a good friend and a good footballer.
"This was how we wanted to pay our respects to her."
Becky, a pupil at Darwen Vale High School, had played for Darwen Ladies since the age of nine.
The teenager had been feeling unwell in the week before her death but her illness was not thought to be serious. Tests are being carried out to determine the cause of Becky's death.

we miss you like crazy sweetie its been 5 months now and not everyone has come to turns with you leaving us so soon, i look at josh and see how much were missin not havin you around is hard but theres nothing we can do even thou we want to so much you were the one and only beks no one can ever replace you not even if they tryed, i no your with the angels now gorjus and you'll always be safe.

[bold]Beckie was a great member of our team.She kept us goin when we were losin shouted at us to keep goin even though we were winnin. she was our star player and i will never forget dux, because i no she'll be some were watchin us play. even though we can't see her i bet she still stands on our side lines shoutin n tellin us to keep our heads up + play a good game! im still shook by ur death still cant believe u r gone in all my netbal matches ive played every goal ive scored most of them r dedicated 2 u coz u loved footie n netball so much we all know that ur a pro up there y6 r gettin redy 2 leave now but i cant stand it i dont wanna leave it reminds me of everyone hoos gone i remeber ur funeral it was soo nice i know ur watchin us above at least god picked the best footie player i ever knew 2 show him how 2 play the game we try 2 start a convo sometimes about u coz we miss u like crazy ere at aidans u were the best y6 pupil that left ever wen i was younger now its my turn 2 go i just wish u didnt have 2 go soo early we got r netball team into the league finals last week but i fink that wen u were wiv us at aidans ur team got into the finals i think we love u n miss u like crazy all our love R.I.P 4 EVA
