FRIENDS and colleagues of 'Mr Burnley Wood' Brian Fenn have paid tribute to the community champion who has died, aged 66.
Brian, chairman of Burnley Wood Action Group, had been ill and in hospital for about six weeks and died in the early hours of Sunday.
Burnley Wood Action Group was set up in 2003 to increase community participation, kick start community projects and activities, promote and encourage community cohesion and deliver improvements in health, crime, employment, housing and education.
Brian worked with colleagues Lynn Fogarty, secretary of the group, and treasurer Tony Watson.
Tony said: "I worked with Brian for a few years and I knew him as a colleague and a friend for many more.
"Everyone is going to miss him hugely. He really was Mr Burnley Wood."
Mike Waite, head of Community Engagement and Cohesion at Burnley Council, said: "Brian was involved in many areas of activity and was always working hard for his community.

Brian was larger than life in both body and mind.
Ive known Brian for approx. 45 years and as teenagers we often went around in the same group-Brian was always the one with the smile, nothing got him down.
We always kissed even in the middle of town when we met, after all these years I just loved meeting up with Brian---A truer friend would be hard to find
I will dearly miss him ....

God bless you Brian.
I have known Brian for over 30 years or so.
He always had a smile and laugh for anyone, even when we were on the door at the old circulation in the 80s people would go over to him just for a chat and a laugh, and that is what you got from him a good laugh.
There was a very serious side to him too,and when he got a bee in his bonnet he would not rest until he got results no matter how long it took.He was a man that was larger than life in more ways than one,YES he was called Mr Burnley Wood.but if you ask anyone that knew him personaly then they would tell you that he was family first and BURNLEY second,YES, not just Burnley Wood BUT BURNLEY,He loved the town he lived in.He was and still is a BIG BIG man in my eyes and if the younger generation was to try and live like Brian did then Burnley would be a lot better town to live in. He will always be remembered by many as the gentle giant.
R.I.P. BRIAN FENN.GOD BLESS YOU.
AND MAY GOD BE WITH YOUR FAMILY IN THESE DAYS OF SORROW.

I would like offer my sincere condolences to all Brian's family and friends. I first met Brian 47 years ago and remember riding on his motorbike - he even introduced me to my first boyfriend. We had many happy times together - all the gang and I often think of those times. I have followed Brian's career over the years and admired all he achieved for the town and people he loved. God keep you Fenny and thank you. x

I would just like to thank everyone who knew our dad,Brian and for the warm and comforting messages since his passing.
As teenagers we loved to listen to all the stories of" The younger years" really we did !many names and places have been mentioned and i know that his memories of those times were held close to his heart.
Fenny as he was known had, as you say, a smile & a joke for everyone and we miss him dearly.
He was our big daddy and we never thought he could ever leave us, but the big man with his big heart is with us always & forever.
