Tributes to Brian Miller

View our Brian Miller photo gallery here.

Brian Miller - one of Burnley Football Club's greatest servants - died on Saturday morning, aged 70.

Miller, a one-club man who dedicated more than four decades to the Clarets, passed away peacefully at Burnley General Hospital following a short illness.

He was surrounded by his family.

Popular Burnley-born Miller was at the club through its highs and lows.

He managed the Clarets twice, and was in the hot-seat for that unforgettable victory over Orient in 1987, which preserved Burnley's Football League status.

CONDOLENCE
Let us know your best memories of Brian Miller by leaving your comments below.

He was also a star player for the Clarets, and was part of the 1960 Championship-winning side.

In fact, he played in every league and cup game that season.

A year later, he was capped by England for the match against Austria.

Miller played a role in all four Championship sides.

In 1960, he was a player. In 1973, a coach. He was manager in 1982 and chief scout in 1992.

Brian's son David went on to play for Burnley, as did son-in law Derek Scott, and his sons Chris and Paul.

He will always be remembered as a great servant to Burnley Football Club.

He will be sadly missed, he had built up a great team in the early 80's, only for it to fall apart after he left. Only returning to save the club for what surely would have been the end in 1987 & the Orient Game? Burnley fans have a lot to thank him for.

remember Brian Miller with great respect from the first ever games I watched with school pals at Turf Moor in the late fifties. He was a great player and I was very sad to hear of his death. My thoughts and prayers are for his family. I am very glad I saw him play in that fine team and appreciate what he has done for Burnley FC.

It is with great sadness that I have just learned of the passing of Brian Miller. During the late 50s and early 60s, I along with my mates saw Brian many times 'down the Turf', and around the country too, he was a superb player and could turn a game with one pass of the ball. He was one of the greats, a kingpin in the middle of the park and should certainly have had more than the one England cap he got. He will be sadly missed and my sincere condolences go out to his wife and family

he's up there as one of our all time greats, perhaps if we have a new stand at Turf Moor in the future we can name it after Brian. I think that would be a nice tribute

So sorry to learn of Brian's passing. Our prayers go out to Mary and all his family. I was so sad to hear of the passing of this delightful man. I remember him in the 80s when I was married to a member of the local press. Waiting in the press room for the manager's comments one suddenly heard a 'tum te tum te tum' and next thing Brian was in the press room always smiling and courteous and charming to me as the only female in the room. He would often be in the local for a pre match socialisation. Condolences to his family

Before the famous Orient game Brian Miller was interviewed for Australian T.V.and elequently spoke about Burnley F.C's place within the community and what the Clarets meant to the town. Asked what would be his reaction to defeat Brian used one word. "UNTHINKABLE" R.I.P. and Thank You.

first of all let me offer my condolences to mary and the family both the millers and the scotts.
i have many happy memories of brian both on the field and of course off the field too,not many people apart from the local turf moor fulledge people knew what he and mary was like in the local area many years ago when they ran their shop on brunshaw road next to the ground.
when you went into the shop there was an air of pure welcome and pleasure, nothing was to much for mary or brian and they helped a lot of people in the area, when you are young and you go into a shop to buy sweets etc the last thing you expect to see is the big man himself actually serving you with the sweets you want, they were my early memories, then young david, myself and a few others playing "wallie" at the rear of the shop against the gates of the turf moor car park, many many happy hour,(david was lot younger than me) then when i was 13/14 years old when i was at the training ground at gawthorpe, brian, joe brown, jimmy adamson, and the then gaffer Mr Harry Potts, always had time to talk to evryone no matter what they was doing at the time, they were always into trying to bring the young uns into the game from grassroots etc.as i haqve said many many happy memories, brian (rip) never had any favourites when it came to the football side,he always praised when needed but god betide you if you was on the receiving end of a blistering attack when you had not given your 100% ha ha. my truest condolences to all of the family and my thoughts are with you all, yors respectfully roy thorpe.

Brian was a true corinthian & I would like to pass my condolences to his family & to Burnley fans everywhere. He played in an era when the rivalry between the two clubs was healthy & its good to see other Rovers fans acknowledging a local legend.

All involved with Lancashire schools' football over the years send deepest sympathies to the Miller and Scott families. Brian was a great representative of football - a great footballer, a true sportsman, a genuine gentleman and, above all a friendly, approachable man. He will be sadly missed in so many circles.
